You had me at hello
Last night when it was my turn while playing the Ungame, I got the question, "What is prayer to you?"
I thought for a moment and said, "Breathing out and breathing in the presence and the mind of God."
I thought that was not a typical answer and that perhaps I should try to explain. So I did. But I rambled on because how do you explain something like that? Since the rules of the Ungame include, "no talking when it is not your turn," the girls let me go.
'Till it was their turn. And, not unlike Renee Zellwegger's famous line, they said with a patient smile, "Yeah, Mom, we got it after the first line. You didn't have to explain."
'Tis a blessing that my girls understand the ephemeral, understand me, understand prayer.
Another question I got was, "Describe a time when you felt you were led by God." They were not surprised at all at my reaction - a big laugh as I looked at an imaginary wrist watch and said, "I don't know. What time is it?" Then, "What kind of question is this? It should be more like 'Describe a time when you felt you weren't led by God....' but of course, that's stupid too." Dumb question. I am always led by God. How could it be otherwise?
But this, I realized, I didn't need to explain either. They got it.

It's because you start us so young. You’ve been sharing your ideas, beliefs and values with us no matter our age because it's worth sharing. I know for me your talks and impromptu lessons have made it easier for me to understand and be open to dissecting the more complicated ideas and questions in life. My mind has been exercised for years by our discoveries. Thank you.
